Under 11 Knights A and B teams gets a final showdown.

This is what Under 11 Knight's manager Tony Mehmet had to say about the event "We had two teams enter the New Ash Green Fc tournament at 5-a-side and both the A & B teams reached the final and the A-team won. It was a great tournament with about 15 different teams and the organisers seemed very impressed to see both sides in the final we were up against some A-division sides that play in Kent and it was a great all round team performance to get to the final and it did not matter who won but the team and club get the recognition".

Jack Petchey "Outstanding Achievers"
 
Ten people were specially recognised by the Jack Petchey Foundation at the June Annual Presentation. All were nominated as "Outstanding Achievers" during the year and received medallions from Veronica Broomes, Regional Volunteer Ambassador for the Jack Petchey Foundation. Two of the recipients - Samuel Arivo (Under 13 Valiants) and Leader, Angela Wood - were totally unaware of the award as their nominations were not revealed in advance of the day.
 
Veronica said "I was pleasantly surprised by how well-attended the session was and the obvious enthusiasm of those present. Congratulations to the Committee, Volunteers, Parents and Players whose contributions make you such a dynamic group".  The Jack Petchey Foundation has been a keen supporter of the Junior Reds for two years as part of their aim to help young people fulfil potential and to take advantage of opportunities in the Community.

"Beat the Goalie" at Summer Fetes

The Club have been busy over the last few weeks in supporting various Schools across Bexley and Greenwich at their Summer Fetes. "Beat the Goalie" has again proven popular with all children receiving sweets or badges for their efforts.

Demelza House Children Hospice Charity support

In May a special Tournament was held at the Charlton Training ground as part of a special Demelza House Charity fund raising event. The Saturday Soccer Club and Coaches decided to donate the full proceeds of the day to this appeal.
 

Keith Peacock (Director, Charlton AFC) had pleasure to hand a cheque for £200 to organisor Lee Amis during the Annual Presentation.

Annual Presentation - Valley success

The Valley witnessed some rare success this year as the Junior Reds held their Annual Presentation of trophies.Three separate shows were organised between 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm as Players; Parents and Managers were all recognised for their achievements  and contributions during the 2008/9 season.

 
Keith Peacock (Charlton AFC Director) and Grant Basey (Charlton Player) made the awards handing out over 500 trophies in various categories. Special recognition was given to seven members of the Under 18s teams in receipt of "Long service" awards for being with the Club since 2001/ 2 and to mark the end of their junior playing careers.

The Junior Reds Needs You!!! - Volunteers Wanted

The Junior reds are currently looking for volunteers to fill specific roles within the club as detailed below:

Results Co-ordinator: We are in need of a Selkent League "Results Co-ordinator" for next season. This job entails collecting all the team results by text or e-mail on a Sunday afternoon and sending these to the League by 6.00 pm.

Special Fund-Raiser Co-ordinator: We also need someone happy to be a "Special Fund-Raiser Co-ordinator" - willing to take the initiative and to arrange a couple of fund raising activities for the Club during the year. This is important to keep subscriptions as low as possible.

7-a-side success at Charlton Athletic Training Ground

Several Junior Reds teams took part in a seven-a-side tournament played at the Charlton Athletic Training Ground in New Eltham. Uniquely all three Under 11 teams were present and were joined by two Saturday Soccer Club teams and the Under 10 Valiants. The sunny conditions brought out some fine football and 28 goals. The eventual winners were the Under 11 (Valiants) - seen pictured with their opponents.
 
In the earlier part of the day the Saturday Soccer Club 5 - 7 year old groups also took part in a tournament. The eventual winners were the "Yellow" team followed closely by the "Greens".

Junior Reds Presentation - 21st June 2009

 
The presentation show times are as follows,
 
Show 1 : 1pm - 2pm (arrive from 12:30pm).
Saturday Club.
U7's and U8's.
 
Show 2 : 2:30pm- 3:45pm (arrive from 2pm)
U9's, U10's and U11's.
 
Show 3:  4:30pm- 6pm  (arrive from 4pm)
U12's, U13's,'U14's,U15's,U16's, U18,s,Seniors and Petchey winners.

Parents - please make sure that you stick to the arrival times so that the presentation can run as smoothly as possible.

This will be in the Millennium Suite (West Stand) at the Valley, Floyd Road, Charlton SE7.

Car parking is available immediately outside the West stand.

Under 11 (Knights) -  Butlins Tournament Finalists

 

Tony Mehmet's side competed in a 11-a-side tournment at a Butlins football tour, they finished as runners up, however they were unlucky not to win.

The kids and parents had a fantastic time, with the kids getting rave reviews from the tour organisers for scoring 30 goals.

Ronnie O'Donnell received the golden ball from Peter Shilton for being voted the player of the tournment.

Congratulations for all your hard work.

Under 8 (Valiants) -  Easter Tournament success

 

Seen collecting trophies from Lee Sharpe (England and Manchester United)  are the Under 8 (Valiants). The team competed with a number of Academy sides at an Easter Tournament in Bognor Regis over a hectic three days. Manager Mark  Cummins said " The boys enjoyed the intensive Tournament and experience of playing some very good teams from across the Country. They were a credit to the Junior Reds throughout the three days".

Sarah Coxall - Jack Petchy "Special Achiever" for May

Pictured (left side of photo)  is Sarah Coxall - the Jack Petchey "Special Achiever" for May -  and ably supported by Player Ellie Smee. Sarah has been with the Club for over two years as the Manager of the Girls' team. Last Summer Sarah organised some special events at local Primary Schools for the Club and is doing the same this year. Sarah said "Last year we attended five School Fetes and our "Beat the Goalkeeper" attraction proved very popular. Hopefully we can support local Schools again this Summer and promote the Club at the same time".

Double Cup Finals

 
Two Junior Reds teams were in action in the Selkent Cup Finals played at Bexley Park Sports Club.
 
First on were the Under 11 (Valiants) - pictured - managed by James Mooney and supported by John Lovell. The team were up against Hillyfielders Eagles - strong opponents and leaders of the Selkent "A" Division. This game end all square at the end of normal and extra time with no goals. The match was then decided on penalties with Hillyfielders eventually winning 3-2. 
 
In the second game the Under 15s - managed by Glen Laing and supported by Bill Murton - played Beaverwood FC. In a competitive match Junior Reds triumphed and this time reversed the 3-2 scoreline to lift the trophy.

England International leads the Coaching

The Under 10 Knights took part in a Level Two mentoring session at the Marathon Ground today. The squad were coached by two new Female coaches under the watchful eye of ex England International Tina Mapes who holds a UEFA A Licence and is one of the Countries leading Coaches.
 
The session lasted two hours with the boys being taken through a Technical practice into a Skill practice and then finishing with a 4v4 game. 
 
Feedback from Tina was that the boys were great to coach as they were technically very good for their age with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. Above all they were very well behaved throughout considering they had to stand around for long periods of time.

Daniel comes up special

The Jack Petchey Special Achiever award for April has gone to Daniel Otamuno-Omi of the Under 15s. Manager Glen Laing said "This young lad is the smallest player in the squad with the biggest heart. He never starts but is patient in the fact he knows he will come on eventually and when he does he plays his heart out".

David joins the ranks.

David Aranda - our newest Under 7 Manager - joined the distinguished Junior Reds FA Level 2 Group of Coaches recently. David attend the David Beckham Academy for over six months and completed many practical tasks to achieve this high level of football accreditation. His Under 7 team are certainly reaping the benefits of David's knowledge and his desire to Coach at the highest standard.

Under  9 (Valiants)

Congratulations go to the Under 9 (Valiants) for achieving Team of the Month for February. Chris Earley, in nominating this team, said " I have seen this team in September and again in February. I have been struck by the tremendous progress made over the first six months both by the team collectively and the players individually. The team never become disheartened and I see a real spirit in this group of Players. They fully deserve recognition for this achievement".

New Under 8s team starts

The newest Junior Reds team made their debut in February. Players started with the Saturday Soccer Club and were recruited into a team ready to take part in organised games as part of their continued development. The team has joined the local Selkent League. Players so far have adapted well to the transition.

Under 10 (Valiants) - A double celebration

Team of the Month for January were the Under 10 (Valiants). This team were only formed in August and have quickly "gelled" to be a formidable unit. The Team entered the "D" Division of the Selkent League and rapidly achieved promotion losing only one game along the way. This team have just been promoted to Division "C" and have started with an energetic performance and opening victory. Manager Daniel Carvalho said " Team of the Month has really been given not just for January but for consistency throughout all the games going back to last September".

"Coach the Coaches" - exchanging ideas
 
A special session was held for all the Junior Reds Coaches at Eltham Green School. Balázs Szilágyi - Coach of the Under 16s - led a well prepared and thoughtful session. This started at the earlier Management meeting with a whole variety of ideas and transferred to the later practical event. Diet; Brazilian warm-ups; cool-downs; technical 1v1 and team games were all included in the session. Baz offered jaffa cakes to all that took part.

Under 7 Knights successful first autumn season

The under 7 Knights team which was formed in the summer of 2008 have completed their first autumn season of football in the Selkent League. During this time they played 18 games of football and managed a fantastic unbeaten run of 15 games across three months. Managers Bradley Thumwood and Stephen Allix commented “The boys have worked hard in training over the last six months and this is showing through their football skills and results in the matches they play. Most importantly they are all enjoying playing football whether they win, lose or draw.”

January's Jack Petchy award has been awarded to Hadley Barton of the Under 11 Valiants for his tremendous contribution to the team. He travels a long way to attend each training session and game.

London "Winter of Sport" initiative is launched
 
Junior Reds "Winter of Sport" initiative really got under way today after the Christmas period when Children came together as part of the Saturday Soccer Club at Bexleyheath School. This is an event with the London Development Agency to introduce sport, exercise, learning and, hopefully, continued participation over the Winter months. Leaflets have been issued to a number of Schools and all invited to try football for the first time and to develop their skills. This event was a great success and will be repeated each Saturday until the end of March. "Learning and ideas" session is launched

Thirty Managers; Coaches and Parents were in attendance at the January Monthly Management meeting at Charlton AFC for the inaugural "Learning and Ideas" session. Experienced representatives from the Woolwich and Eltham Sunday Football Alliance League - Ken Bailee (Referee Secretary) and Mike Tappin (Assistant Chairman) - accepted an invitation and explained the various skills required to be an effective Assistant Referee.  This "Learning and Ideas " sessions generated discussion and different themes will be introduced at other Management meetings from time to time.

New Under 7 team is launched

A little bit of history was made as the latest Junior Reds team - the Under 7(Valiants) - have played their very first game. Players from the Saturday Soccer Club were selected to play in this team. Ably supported by Parents seven boys took to the field and played two matches against opponents Cray Wanderers at Mottingham Playing Fields. Manager David Aranda said "the boys played very well and enjoyed the experience of playing as a team for the very first time"
 
The team are seen before the matches wearing their new kit supplied under the Football Foundation Junior Kit Scheme.
 
David requires two more 6 year olds to complete his squad.

Something different: Greyhound Racing - Special Fundraising Night

Junior Reds have obtained a number of tickets for a special Greyhound Night at Crayford Stadium on Monday 26th January. These tickets to admit Adults are available at a discounted price of  £2 each -  which represents just one third of the standard admission charge. Children can attend but will be charged the standard £4.50 admission price at the Stadium. The first race is at 7.30 pm.

Early promise -  Under 8 (Sabres)

The much coveted "Team of the Month" trophy for November has been awarded to the Under 8 (Sabres). They are the newest of the three Junior Reds team at Under 8 level and have made an exceptional start in their very first season. Manager Lee Holness said "The Boys have really gelled quickly and have played some excellent football against many established teams. The Boys work well; train hard and November "Team of the Month" has really been awarded for all their effort and performances since the first day"

Tony Mehmet - Not to be out done

Fresh from Daniel Carvalho's recent FA's Level 2 Coaching success another Junior Reds' Manager has achieved this special distinction. This time Tony Mehmet - Manager of the Under 11 (Knights) - has attained this standard and joins a very select group of Coaches within the Club. This higher Coaching qualification is intensive and requires a minimum six months practical application in many aspects of the game.

Daniel does it in style

Daniel Carvalho - Under 10 (Valiants) Manager - has this week qualified as a F.A. Level 2 Coach. He has been working towards this for the last six months and he has now joined a small and select group of Coaches within the Junior Reds. Chairman, Clive Chivers, said "this is well deserved as Daniel is a highly conscientious and motivated Coach and fully deserves this award. The Players and the Club will greatly benefit from Daniel attaining a high Coaching standard".
 
Daniel is seen with his Under 10 team on a team building event and with a signed Christmas present from the Players.

Under 16 Player recognition

No less than four Junior Reds Under 16 players were recently called up for trials to represent the Bexley and District League team in matches against other areas. Two players - Daniel Earley and Jack Pizzey - were successful and have been selected to represent the League.
 
Daniel has been a goalkeeper for five years and will play against Dagenham and Redbridge at Erith Stadium on the 12th January 2009. Jack plays in midfield and is on "stand-by" duty.
 
The players have both been with the Club for several seasons and this is the first time two Junior Reds players have represented the Bexley Junior League at Under 16 level. It is also an achievement to have no less than four players short listed for representative duties.

James Hegarty - Well done!

James Hegarty - Captain of the Under 11 (Knights) -  has received the Jack Petchey "Special Achiever" award for December. This was presented to James during a training session. James has been with the team since the very start and sets a very high standard for others in terms of conduct, attitude and leadership. The team are having an excellent season in the "A" Division of the Bexley League.

Under 10 (Knights) - October Team of the Month

Many teams excelled last month in terms of performances and were in contention for "Team of the Month". The Under 10 (Knights) ultimately were award the coveted trophy during their training session at GOALS. The team went through October unbeaten and then travelled to the home of the Junior Hammers in the London Youth Cup; played exceptionally well and came away with a very creditable 1 - 0 success - the result of the round.

Tom Matthews - November Special Achiever

Congratulations go to Tom Matthews of the "Senior" team for receiving the Jack Petchey Special Achiever Award for November. Tom has been a stalwart member of the Senior team for two years and was previously in the Under 18s. He is a role model for others in key areas of reliability; sportsmanship and attitude. These qualities have made him a perfect Ambassador for the Junior Reds.

Jack Barton - Under 12 (Valiants)

Congratulations goes to Jack Barton in the Under 12 (Valiants) for receiving the Jack Petchey special Achiever Award for  October. This was presented by Manager Steve Avery during the team's training session at Cleeve Park School. Jack has been with the team for two years since Under 10s.

Lord Mayor's Show

Junior Reds' Players and Parents were well represented at the Lord Mayor's Show this year. Members of the Club were placed as flag carriers and enjoyed themselves despite the rain.

Charter Standard Development Club Winners - Double Success

Junior Reds collected two awards at the London F.A. Charter Standard Awards Night 2008 held at the Football Association HQ in Soho Square.

The first came as the London FA Development Club Winner for 2008. This was awarded in recognition of the high Coaching standards; the number of Clubs teams; Saturday Soccer Club and commitment to the development of players of all abilities. Special mention was made of the Club's Development Plan and exceptional progress made over the last three years.

The second award was received as Development Club winners in the South East England category covering the Middlesex; London; Kent; Surrey; Sussex and Channel Islands Football Associations regions. This was a tremendous achievement and recognition for all the excellent Coaching and hard week performed each week by so many volunteers

Jack Petchey Leader Award - Chris Earley

The  special Jack Petchey Leader Award for 2008 was presented to Chris Earley at the Annual Presentation event.  Chairman Clive Chivers said "Chris has been a tremendous servant to the Junior Reds . He readily helps wherever required and is active in so many areas - from the Saturday Soccer Club - to the Under 16 and 18 teams - and in fund raising schemes. We have many excellent Coaches and Managers but Chris truly deserves this award and recognition for his unstinting contribution over a very long period".

Early pacesetters - Under 8 (Knights)

The Under 8 (Knights) have had some excellent performances in September and are the first "Team of the Month" winners this season setting a high standard. Manager Tony Ball said "I am really impressed with the Boys development both individually and as a team. Result have been excellent to match their progress".

Two More FA Qualified Coaches

Congratulations go to Lee Holness  and Chris Knott - Managers of the Under 8 (Sabres) and Under 9 (Valiants) - for obtaining their F.A. Level 1 Coaching Qualification.  Chris and Lee's success now means the Junior Reds have over twenty  Level 1 qualified Coaches as a minimum standard. Seen with Chris and Lee is the Course instructor.

Coaches attend Girls Academy at Charlton AFC

Junior Reds Coaches were in attendance at the recent London F.A. Club Development Workshop held at the Charlton Training Ground. Coaches were able to watch the Charlton Academy Girls Under 14 and Under 16 teams being taught a number of aspects of the game. Seen in the photo with Junior Reds Coaches are Paul Mortimer (Technical Director Women and Girls Football) and Emma Barnes (London F.A. Women's & Girls Football Development Officer (South London).

Jack Petchey Special Achiever  - Reiss Powell

The Jack Petchey Special Achiever award for September has been presented to Reiss Powell in the Under 12 (Knights). Reiss has been with the Junior Reds since the age of 4; is  exceptionally dedicated, and; represented the Bexley Schools area team for the first time last season.

What a Circus

Junior Reds were invited to the "Circus" at Mayplace School, Barnehurst. The star attraction before the main performance was "Beat the Goalie". The long arm of the law were needed for crowd control.

Congratulations Angela

In recognition of the excellent service to all the Junior Reds teams Angela Wood has received very special recognition from the Kent Football Association. Angela received the Kent FA Volunteer Award from Premier League and Cup Final Referee Steve Benett at a presentation held at the Roffen Club in Rochester. Hearing all the work that Angela does Steve said "it is a great pleasure to meet a woman that can multitask". These tasks include Fixture Secretary for eighteen teams; a Child Welfare Officer; Saturday Soccer Club Co-ordinator; and Kit Manager. In addition Angela is both the Assistant Treasurer and a Divisional Registration Officer for the Selkent League. This is Junior Reds' first ever award received from the Kent FA and it is most appropriate Angela is the first recipient in the Club.

Under 10 (Valiants) Debut

Making their debut in the Selkent League were the Under 10 (Valiants). Manager Daniel Carvalho said " This is our very first game in any League as we only formed a few weeks ago. Today the Boys performed really well with lots of effort". The team started with a 2 - 0 win.

Under 9 (Knights) -Tournament Success

Seen with their winners trophies from the London Marathon Playing Fields tournament are the Under 9 (Knights). Manager Bruce Pleckinger said "we started the tournament slowly but improved with each game to finish really well".

Spot the Floyd Competition

Junior Reds were in attendance at the Charlton Athletic "Open" Day with friends. The full Charlton team squad autographed two footballs for the Club. These will be donated to School Fetes in the future.

Tournament Success

Under 12 (Knights) were in impressive form at the recent Footscray 9-a-side tournament played at Bexley Grammar School. The team did not concede a goal throughout all their matches. The team are seen with their winners trophies.

Awards

Junior Reds Football Club recently held their Annual Presentation of trophies to all players and teams at Charlton Athletic Football Club. Nineteen teams were in attendance and 10 teams received specific League honours for their achievements in Divisional or Cup competitions. In addition fifty excited members of the Junior Reds Saturday Soccer Club were also present to receive trophies for the first time.

One special addition this year was the presentation of medallions to nine special achievers as part of the Jack Petchey Award Scheme. The Club joined this Scheme last October and have made awards to eight players in different teams. Pictured are the special Achievers - David Early (Under 17s); Manraj Rai (Under 12s); Ian Wood (for Under 9s); Robert Murton (Under 14s); Daniel Earley (Under 15s); Joe Phelps (Under 12s); Stephen Jerrom (Under 11s); Ben Linnett (Under 12s) and Thomas Meager (Under 13s). The Leader award went to Chris Earley , Manager of the Under 17s and 15s.

The Awards were presented by Brian Kinsey (also pictured) - a Charlton AFC Captain and legend from the 1960s/ early 70s. Keith Peacock - also well known to Charlton Athletic fans - was also in attendance to present trophies.
