French Opponents bring the Sunshine again
There is something about playing French teams - they always bring the sunshine with them.
Brian O'Hara's Under 14 Valiants team played the team of Theziers today in glorious - if hot - sunshine at the Meridian Sports Ground in Charlton. The game was sportingly contested with the Under 14 Knights eventually coming from behind on two occasions to finish winners by 3 goals to 2. London F.A. Awards night - a hat-trick of success
Junior Reds picked up no fewer than three honours at the London Football Association Annual Awards evening held at Leyton Orient Football Club - to make this a very special occasion.
The first award was the coveted "Charter Standard Development Club of the Year for 2008-09". This was followed by two Football Workforce Awards for outstanding Voluntary service. In the "Young Volunteer" category recognition was given to Ian Wood, whilst shortly after - in the slightly older category - Coach, Glen Laing received a similar honour.
Chairman, Clive Chivers, said "Receiving the Charter Standard Development Club award was a very special achievement as there are many good Clubs in London and this was the second year in succession that this honour has gone to the Junior Reds. I am absolutely delighted to receive this on behalf of so many people in the Club that work tirelessly to enable football to be played practically every week of the year. It was further pleasurable to see two of our Volunteers collect Workforce Awards. Ian Wood, as a Young Volunteer, provides invaluable support to the Under 11 Knights team. Glen Laing lead the Under 14 to Under 16 teams for three seasons and built a very successful side in this time".

New teams are forming - Under 7; 9 and 11
The Club have been very busy over the last few months in forming some additional teams. We are on the way to starting teams at Under 7s; Under 9s and Under 11s. All teams will compete in the Selkent League. The Under 11s will be based at Thamesmead and will play 9-a-side for this season.
Much work however still needs to be done and some vacancies exist in all the new teams. Chairman, Clive Chivers said, " The formation of teams is not an easy process. Finding volunteer Managers to a high standard is not easy. Ideally we would have liked to start more teams for greater opportunity but have been limited by the hunt for volunteers. If any Parent is interested to help the Junior Reds this would be greatly valued.
It is not too late to join one of the new teams as a player. Please contact Clive on 07504 264157 if this is of interest.

U10 Knights coasted into the final.
The U10 Knights took 15 players to Ramsgate in Kent this weekend for our annual Kent Coast Tour. We played our first competitive 11 a side football in a small Tournament with teams from both the SELKent League and the East Kent Youth League. The lads played five matches in total winning three, drawing one and losing one. We finished as Runners up having scored eleven goals (highest on the day) and conceding just two.
Manager Andy Wood said the following "Although we have been training for the past five weeks for the change to 11 a side I was a little anxious before kick off but the boys adapted well and played some great football. We also impressed a lot of people with our football and have been invited to play pre-season friendlies against Ramsgate from the Ryman League and Kennington from Ashford".

In sunny conditions a record fourteen teams took part in this year's 6-a-side Parents' Tournament, played at Coldharbour Leisure Centre. Teams were placed in three Groups and qualified to semi final and final stages.
The ultimate Champions were Parents of the new 2009/10 Under 7 team by defeating surprise outsiders, Under 10 ''Knights of the round belly'' (Andy's team) in the final, by 3 goals to 1.
The Intermediate Cup winners were the Under 14 Knights (Pat's team) running out by 2 goals to nil against debutants the Under 7 Knights (Bradley and Stephen's team) in their final.
Winners of the Plate competition were the Under 14 Valiants (Mick and Jon's team) with the same scoreline of 2 goals to nil against another new side in the Under 9 Valiants (Baris' team).
Overall winners, however, were all the Parents for taking part and playing the games in a fine sporting spirit. Well done!
